Presqu'ile
Provincial Park:
Located
near Brighton on
the north shore
of Lake Ontario,
Presqu'ile Provincial
Park is a camper’s
and day-tripper’s
paradise. With
almost two kilometres
of groomed beach,
interpretive programs
and two visitor
centres, the park
appeals to visitors
of all ages and
interests.
When early French
explorers discovered
the peninsula,
they named it "Presqu'ile"
which is French
for "almost
an island".
Before becoming
a park, the peninsula
was almost the
site of a large
district town.
In its early history,
1812 soldiers,
pirates, smugglers,
squatters and rumrunners
also called the
peninsula home.
Since then, the
park has become
a tourist's mecca
that attracts 200,000
visitors per year.
Campers can choose
from 394 sites
(group sites and
electrical sites
are available)
in the spring,
summer and fall.

Open
year round, Presqu'ile
boasts over 16
km of walking trails
that guide visitors
through the parks
many unique habitats
including marsh,
forest and natural
beach.
Known
for its natural
diversity, Presqu'ile
offers daily interpretive
programs in the
summer to introduce
park visitors to
the fascinating
features and history
of the area.
Presqu’ile
is one of the prime
locations in Ontario
to witness waterfowl,
warblers and shorebirds
migrate in spring
and fall; bird
watchers have recorded
over 325 species
in the park. It
is also a great
place to see Monarch
butterflies migrating
in late August
and early September.
While visiting
Presqu'ile, be
sure to stop in
at our two interpretive
museums.
Visitors to the
Lighthouse Interpretive
Centre will discover
our cultural history
through our talking
mannequin “Jack
Atkins”,
the giant satellite
image of Southern
Ontario, a scale
model of Presqu’ile’s
lighthouse and
a dynamic audio-visual
display dramatizing
the sinking of
the schooner Speedy.
The
Nature Centre gives
visitors the opportunity
to get up close
and personal with
a wide range of
native frogs, turtles,
snakes and fish.
